'Round Saskatoon Sask.©: Canadian Folk Song

Saskatoon 'Round Saskatoon Saskatchewan© is a song about moving from the scenic city of Saskatoon Saskatchewan, to the growing metropolis of Greater Vancouver in British Columbia.

Listen to the audio, view a music video and read the lyrics to the Canadian Country Folk song, 'Round Saskatoon Saskatchewan©, composed and performed by Dave Philley.
I had always remembered the chorus to a song I used to listen to as a child on a children's TV program. Thanks to the Facebook page, "You Know You Grew Up In Saskatoon etc.", I discovered the show was called Smokey's Cabin and the song is called, Round Saskatoon by Jeff Howard. But long before I found the original song, I wrote my own version, and called it 'Round Saskatoon Saskatchewan. It is a Country Folk song about moving from Saskatoon Sask. to North Delta, a suburb of Vancouver B.C. during the summer of 1967.

'Round Saskatoon Saskatchewan© lyrics - Country-Folk Song

[Chorus]
Round Saskatoon the wind blows free
Carrying the whisper of the lone prairie
The breeze keeps a blowin and I'm bound to go
'Round Saskatoon Saskatchewan

[Verse 1]
It was the 67th year of the 20th century
When I moved out to Vancouver BC
Playing my guitar and singing my songs
I guess this was going to be my destiny

[Chorus]
Coming from Saskatoon where the wind blows free
Carrying the whisper of the lone prairie
The breeze keeps a blowin and I'm bound to go
Round Saskatoon Saskatchewan

[Verse 2]
Skaking to school with my hockey stick and puck
Or bumper skiing behind a pickup truck
I long for those crisp blue prairie skies
Golden yellow wheat fields caressing my eyes

[Verse 3]
I had a 57 Chevy and a girl I was about to do
When I was told I'd be moving away from Saskatoon
Away from the prairies through the mountains in BC
Out to the west coast and the calming sea

[Guitar and/or Harmonica Solo]

[Verse 3]
Now I live near a place called Roberts Creek
Playing my guitar for something to eat
I'd like to welcome you all to my home near the sea
Where I'll sing you some songs of the rolling prarie

[Chorus]
In Saskatoon the wind blows free
Carrying the whisper of the lone prairie
The breeze keeps a blowin and I'm bound to go
Round Saskatoon Saskatchewan
